INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Donnie Aldrich (Avon) and Brett Widner (Avon) were on fire on Monday at Indiana Mid-Amateur Team Championship at Highland G & CC. During Sunday's Four-Ball competition, Aldrich and Widner posted a 5-under-par 65 and trailed by two heading to Monday’s final round. The scramble format proved to be their forte, posting an impressive 9-under-par 61 this afternoon to claim a two-shot victory.
“We played okay for the first five holes and then Donnie hit one really close on six,” Widner said. “From then on, every iron was pure.”
Aldrich and Widner birdied nine of their last 13 holes today, to finish 14-under-par for the event.
“It feels great to win this event and validates all of our hard work this winter,” Aldrich said. “We’re playing in the Indiana Four-Ball in a couple of weeks and feel pretty confident heading to that event.”
This is the duo’s first win at the Mid-Amateur Team and they look to defend their title at the Indiana Four-Ball on May 1-2 at Bear Slide GC.
Sean Rowen (Greenwood) and Bobby Delagrange (Westfield) finished in a tie for second with Wayne Denger (Wabash) and Blake Shelby (Zionsville) at 12-under-par.
