Alabama up by five after SEC Championship opening round

SEA ISLAND, Ga. — The Alabama Crimson Tide are out to a five-shot lead after the opening-round of the SEC Championship, being held this year at Sea Island Golf Club — site of the Jones Cup.
Recent Palmer Cup selection and 2015 Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters winner Robby Shelton paced Alabama on day one with a five-under par 65, which is tied for first place individually with two other players. Matt NeSmith of South Carolina and Kolton Crawford of Arkansas also posted 65 on Friday.
Alabama took four scores in the 60s in the first round. Along with Shelton's 65, the Crimson Tide carded a 67 from Jonathan Hardee, 68 from Davis Love III's son Dru, and a 69 from Robby Prater.
LSU, led by Brandon Pierce's 67, are in second place at six-under while Auburn and South Carolina are just a shot back in third.
