Billy Mitchell
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Billy Mitchell of Roswell, Ga. leads the Timuquana Cup by three heading into Sunday's final round. The Mid-Amateur only tournament, which also has senior and super-senior flights, has been hosted at Timuquana Country Club since 2012.
Mitchell opened with 70 on Friday, then got to two under through the first nine holes of his second round. His even-par back-nine consisted of just two pars to go along with four bogeys, two birdies, and an eagle. His second straight 70 leads first-round leader Kevin Wolf by three shots.
Wolf, who carded 69 on Friday, was going along nicely and headed toward an even-par 72 in round two but double-bogeyed the par-three 16th.
Ben Hayes and Brad Wilder are at even-par, just a stroke behind Wolf, while Bill Sharpe and Rusty Shrawn are at one-over.
The Senior Division is being led through two rounds by 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur winner Doug Hanzel with fellow Savannah, Ga. native Jack Hall just a stroke behind. Hanzel is at four-under while Hall is at three-under.
In the Super Senior Division, Steve Melnyk leads by six with Randy Briggs in second place.
