LAKE FOREST, Ill. — It will be a matchup of Big-10 golfers in Thursday's championship match at the 96th Chicago District Amateur Championship.
Top-seeded Alex Burge prevailed in his toughest match of the tournament, defeating Derek Meinhart 3-and-2. Meinhart had the match all-square through 12 holes before Burge, a graduating senior from the University of Illinois, won three of the next four holes to clinch his spot in the championship match.
Tee-K Kelly, a junior at Ohio State, built a 4-up lead over fellow State Amateur champion Raymond Knoll with four holes to play before watching Knoll rip off three straight wins. However, Kelly rebounded with a par on 18 to take the match.
The championship match tees off at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning at Knollwood Club and will be a 36-hole bout.
