BRIDGEVILLE, Del. — Jay Whitby secured his second career Delaware Amateur title on Wednesday, shooting a final-round 71 to win by three strokes over Greg Wolfe.
Whitby opened with rounds of 71 and 70, which placed him in third place just one shot behind 36-hole leaders Wolfe and Michael Chanaud. But a 68 on day three put Whitby in a tie for the lead before closing it out Wednesday, giving him his second championship.
Whitby first won the Delaware Amateur in 2006.
Wolfe, the 2009 champion, shot 69 in round three and entered the final day tied with Whitby, but struggled to a 74 and settled for second place.
Two-time defending champion Chris Hickman, a golfer at East Tennessee State, is playing in this week's Northeast Amateur and was not back in the field to attempt a three-peat.
