BIRMINGHAM, AL – SMU junior Bryson DeChambeau has been selected to receive the SGA National Amateur of the Month award for June. DeChambeau opened the month by winning the individual title at the NCAA Division 1 golf championships at Concession GC in Bradenton, FL, with an 8-under total of 280.

But that was only the start of a huge June for the Mustang golfer. He qualified for the U.S. Open with a blazing 11-under 133 in a sectional qualifier that included many PGA Tour pros. Then he was awarded a spot in the PGA Tour FedEx/St. Jude Classic in Memphis and made the cut to finish T40.

The monthly winner is selected by a blue-ribbon national panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. DeChambeau drew all but one vote from the panel. In addition to the award, the SGA supports amateur golf by running three notable annual tournaments, headed by the storied Southern Amateur, presented by Duck Head attire and set to be played this year at Mississippi's Old Waverly Club in July.
