Semifinals set at Pennsylvania Match Play
Nathan Smith
INDIANA, Pa. — The semifinal matchups at the 12th annual Pennsylvania Jay Sigel Match Play Championship were set for Wednesday morning at Indiana Country Club.
Among the final four is four-time U.S. Mid-Amateur winner Nathan Smith of Pittsburgh. Smith, the five-seed, secured two 3-and-2 victories on Tuesday. He'll face Indiana native Matt Holuda, a sophomore at Rutgers, on Wednesday morning.
Holuda captured the largest upset of the tournament when he knocked off the medalist Rick Stimmel in a 1-up victory in the first round. In Tuesday afternoon's round, Holuda handed a 3-and-2 defeat to recent Western Pennsylvania Amateur winner Easton Renrick.
Arnie Cutrell will face Doug Gradwell in the lower half of the bracket. The championship match will immediately follow the semifinal's conclusion.
