Brendon Caballero repeats as Tennessee Match Play champion

COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. (July 25, 2015) — 2014 Tennessee Match Play Champion Brendon Caballero of Brentwood has made history by becoming the first ever player to win consecutive Tennessee Match Play Championships.
After claiming the 5th seed from 36 holes of stroke play qualifying at The Grove in College Grove, TN, Caballero won his first two matches 4&2 and 5&4 heading into the semi-finals against top seeded Hunter Richardson of Clarksville.
Caballero bested Richardson after 19 holes to set up a final match with Hunter Howell of Franklin. A tight match through the front nine, Caballero would pull away in victory winning 5&4 to claim the championship.
2014 Senior Match Play Runner Up and 2014 Tennessee Amateur and Senior Amateur Player of the Year Tim Jackson of Germantown captured the Senior Match Play Championship with an outstanding performance all week.
After posting the medalist score of 4-under par 140, Jackson ran through the bracket 7&6, 7&6, 3&2, and finally 5&4 besting Doug Harris of Franklin in the finals.

Tennessee Match Play
This match play event adopts the format used by the
PGA Tour for the World
Golf Championships Match Play tournament. Under
this format, a field of 64
players will be divided into 16 groups of four players
each. Each group will play
a round-robin format with each competitor playing
three matches within their
group. A player will receive one point for a win, a
half point for a tie, and each
group’s winner will advance to the round of 16.
Applications are open to
amateurs who possess an active USGA/GHIN
Handicap Index of 8.0 or less from
a TGA member club or course.
