27! Jay Reynolds goes crazy low on back nine at Austin City
Jay Reynolds
AUSTIN, Texas — Jay Reynolds led after the first round of the Austin City Championship after a ridiculous eight-under par 27 on the back nine at Lions Municipal Golf Course pushed him to an 11-under 60 — and a seven-shot lead.
Friday brought another round in the 60s for Reynolds, if only by a stroke. Still, a 69 at the Roy Kizer Golf Course extended his already large lead to eight at the tournament's halfway point. He birdied three of his last five holes on Friday to end on a good note.
During Thursday's remarkable opening round, Reynolds made no bogeys, and after already dropping an eagle-3 at the par-5 14th hole, birdied 16, 17, and made yet another eagle at the closing par-4 18th.
Brandon Rougeau is eight back in second place after shooting 67 at Lions on Friday, while a three-way tie for third place features Steve Paterson, Jack Cersosimo, and Michael Cooper.
