NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (July 30, 2015) — Play concluded this week at the Kentucky Open hosted by the Champions Course at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky.

The amateurs in this year’s field put up a remarkably strong showing including a second-place finish by amateur Logan Hogge of Salt Lick, Ky. and a third place finish by amateur Joseph Deraney of Lexington, Ky.

Hogge, this year’s Kentucky State Amateur champion, shot rounds of 68, 69, 71 and finished just one shot back of the champion Kent Bulle. Hogge, a rising senior at Morehead State University, was tied for the lead at 10-under after 15 holes but made costly bogeys on holes 16 and 17 to fall back to second. Nonetheless, as the low-amateur in the Open and the State Amateur Champion, Hogge is certainty to be considered the best amateur in Kentucky.

Deraney also had a great shot grabbing the trophy down the stretch. Deraney, a co-medalist at this year’s Lupton Invitational, birdied holes 14-16 to reach 9-under par. Unfortunately, bogeys on holes 17 and 18 took the mid-amateur player just out of the mix.

Hogge and Deraney were two of 38 amateurs to make it through the 36-hole cut at 8-over par.
