Josh Irving maintains lead at Texas North Amateur
Josh Irving
PROSPER, Texas — Joshua Irving continued his strong play at Gentle Creek Country Club Saturday, posting a two-under par 70. Irving has left his mark already on the 2015 season with regional wins at the North Four-Ball and a third place finish at the North Mid-Amateur. The Fort Worth native carded four birdies to maintain his lead on a day where the scoring average for the field improved by over a stroke.
Andrew Spear of Flower Mound also shot a two-under par 70 on the day to stay within two strokes of Irving heading into the final round. Irving and Spear will be paired with Plano’s Brad Gibson when the leaders tee off at 9:18 am. Despite a double-bogey on the par five 13th hole, Gibson found six birdies on the day to earn a spot in the final pairing.
Another sunny day in Prosper brought low scores at Gentle Creek Country Club as players sought to improve on their first round scores. The North Amateur, presented by UST Mamiya, is the fourth in a series of regional events conducted by the Texas Golf Association. The Texas Golf Association is proud to bring the North Amateur to Gentle Creek Country Club in the North Texas community of Propser.
The low rounds of the day belonged to Trevor Arts of Trophy Club and George Gardner of Southlake, who each fired matching three-under par 69’s. With twelve players in the field sitting at a score of even-par or better heading into tomorrow’s final round, players will take to the layout at Gentle Creek Country Club in one last effort to pick-up Player of the Year points as the regional event series concludes.
Designed by D.A. Weibring, Gentle Creek Country Club is nestled in a natural wooded setting that has the potential to play over 7,300 yards with no shortage of challenging holes tee to green.
The final round of the North Amateur presented by UST Mamiya gets underway tomorrow, Sunday August 2nd, at 7:30 am off both the first and tenth tees.
