ASHEBORO, N.C. — Either holding or sharing the lead throughout the championship, Keith Waters of Raleigh - Gary Robinson of Fayetteville fired a final round 9-under 63 to finish at 22-under 194 and win the North Carolina Senior Four-Ball by two strokes over Rick Luzar of Pinehurst - Dean Channell of Cary. Playing with Waters-Robinson, Luzar-Channell carded an 8-under 64 to finish at 20-under 196.
“It was a grind,” said Gary Robinson. “Dean (Channell) and Rick (Luzar) played great which pushed us to play our best. That’s what we are out here for is to compete and have fun both of which we did today.”
Robinson and Waters are turning out to be a formidable four-ball tandem. With victories at this event and the Eagle Point Invitational (Wilmington, N.C.) coupled with a second place finish in April at the Carolinas Senior Four-Ball, they are quickly becoming a force in the region.
Defending champions Mark Stephens of Troutman - Russ Perry of Winston-Salem posted a five-under 67 (204) to finish in a tie for 7th place.
