HERCULES, Calif. (August 27, 2006) -- Scott Hardy of Pleasant Hill won the West County Amateur on Sunday, emerging from a pack of players at the top of the leaderboard on Saturday with a 4-under-par 67 on Sunday.
Hardy, the golf coach at St. Mary's college, has had a solid summer of golf that included a run to the quarterfinals at the California State Amateur. In July Hardy won the Pittsburgh City Championship; earlier in the year he and partner Rick Reinsberg took third in the NCGA Four Ball. Hardy will participate in the USGA Mid Amateur, September 9-14 at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff Arizona, after qualifying with a 3-under-par 69 at Richmond Country club in early August.
Lou Alvarez of Auburn, who recently qualified for the Chrysler Club Championship National event, won the Senior Division by three over Ron Wiley of San Francisco. Alvarez shot 5-over-par 147.
