SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Ken Tanigawa captured his second Arizona Golf Association major championship on Friday, defending his title at the Arizona Mid-Amateur Championship in comeback fashion.

Having already won the Arizona Amateur earlier this month in a 4-and-2 defeat over Austin Fletcher, Tanigawa was looking to make it a second major victory this calendar year. He did so, shooting a final-round 67 at Mirabel Golf Club to overtake second-round leader Ken Kellaney, who carded 80 in the final round.

This year's Trans-Miss Senior winner, Jeff New, opened with 69 to share the lead after day one but posted 75 on Thursday and fell six back of the lead. His 66 on the final day brought him back into contention, but still placed him two back of Tanigawa, who went bogey-free to roll to victory.
