Ryan Kohler holds slim lead at N.H. Mid-Amateur
Ryan Kohler
GOFFSTOWN, N.H. — Ryan Kohler (Hooper GC) leads a talented field at the 2015 New Hampshire Mid-Amateur Championship presented by Country Club Enterprises after 18 holes at Stonebridge Country Club. Kohler’s 1-under 71 was good enough for a 1-shot lead over Jim Cilley (Lochmere Golf & CC) and James Pleat (Nashua CC).
Kohler, the 2013 Stroke Play Champion, was the medalist during the 2014 State Amateur Championship held at Stonebridge. He was 3-under par on the difficult back nine including an eagle on the par-5 14th hole.
Pleat, a first-year eligible Mid-Amateur, was the 2015 Stroke Play Champion and was the 2006 Junior Champion. His father Phil has won eighteen NHGA Championships and sits just four shots off the lead after a round 1 75.
Defending Champion Brett Wilson shot a 74 in the first round in his first round ever at Stonebridge CC. He will play with Kohler and James Pleat on Wednesday.
Stonebridge’s 6,600 yard layout played more difficult than expected, with an average score for the 1st round over 81. Wednesday will be very similar with almost the same yardages on each hole. The field will be cut to the low 27 players and ties after Wednesday’s second round.
