MILTON, Ga. — After a day of round of 32 matches and round of 16 matches in misty rain, the quarterfinals have been set at the Atlanta Amateur Match Play Championship. The 97th playing of the annual competition is taking place at Atlanta National Golf Club, September 24-27.

Saturday will feature four quarterfinal matches in the morning. First off at 8:30 a.m. will be Bob Royak of Alpharetta — who defeated No. 1 seed and defending champion Lee Knox in Friday morning's first round — versus Mike Cromer of Peachtree Corners. Dave Poteet of Suwanee will face Brad Davis of Lawrenceville at 8:38 a.m.

The third quarterfinal match will feature Chris Hall of Kennesaw and Chris Waters of Atlanta at 8:54 a.m. Hall won a narrow 1-up match against No. 3 seed Greg Hamilton on Friday morning before beating Jason Henry 4-and-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Taylor Welborn of LaGrange fired a 6-under-par 66 to earn medalist honors on Thursday, which granted him the No. 2 seed behind the reigning champion Knox. Welborn moved into the round of 16 after a morning win over Mitch Kim, 2-and-1, but fell 4-and-3 in the afternoon to the 2015 Georgia Junior champion S.M. Lee of Buford. He will take on Damon Stephenson in the final quarterfinal matchup.

In total, the top six seeds in the bracket lost during the opening two matches at Atlanta National Golf Club.
