EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Randal Lewis of Alma, Mich. earned medalist honors at the U.S. Senior Amateur after firing a second-round 68 to add to his 70 on day one. At 4-under par 138, Lewis, the 2011 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion, was top qualifier by two strokes over Doug LaCrosse of Tampa, Fla. at Hidden Creek Golf Club.

Lewis' first-round match up is yet to be determined, as playoffs for the final qualifying spot is still to take place Monday morning.

“The key for me is that I’m never results-focused; I want to play as well as I can play and not make mistakes,” Lewis told the USGA. “If I win, great, if I lose, no big deal because you can only control yourself. If I can play my game and play solid, no matter what happens, I’ll be happy. I’ve really enjoyed myself so far.”

Lewis is playing in his fourth U.S. Senior Amateur, with his best finish coming in 2014 when he made it to the semifinals before losing 2-and-1 to eventual runner-up Bryan Norton.

SATURDAY RECAP: Jackson leads after round one

First-round leader Tim Jackson, who posted 68 on Saturday, shot 2-over 73 on Sunday and dropped into a tie for third place, still granting him the No. 4 seed in match play, in which he will face 2014 Canadian Senior Amateur champion Doug Roxburgh.

LaCrosse, the No. 2 seed, will square off with Patrick Murphy of Provo, Utah in his opening-round match while the 3-seed, Don Dubois of Newport Beach, is set to face fellow Californian Mark Morgan of El Dorado Hills.

Defending champion Pat Tallent secured the 19-seed and will be matched up against Kevin Cahill of Waukesha, Wisc. on Monday. Norton, who lost to Tallent in 2014 at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif., also advanced to match play. As the 43-seed, the Mission Hills, Kan. resident will battle Doug Stiles of Athens, Ga. in his first-round match.
