Wichita Falls, TX (October 13, 2015) -- Carolyn Creekmore shot a 2-under par 69 to take the outright lead at the Texas Women’s Senior Stroke Play Championship at Wichita Falls Country Club.
Creekmore from Dallas, used great scoring conditions to take the lead by 3 over Marian Barker. Birdies on three of the opening five holes saw Creekmore jump out to any early lead.
A bogey on the 431 yard par five sixth didn’t slow her momentum as she added two more birdies on the tenth and thirteenth, to reach 4-under through 13. Two bogies on sixteen and eighteen however brought her back to the field and holds a three shot lead headed into the final day.
18 hole co-leader, Marian Barker from Lubbock shot a two-over par 73 and remains close with Creekmore. Despite only one birdie on the day, Barker’s card only featured three bogies. Only three back, Barker will continue to press Creekmore, as the two will be playing together along with Becky Neal.
Two time defending champion Anna Shultz stayed consistent with another 10-over par, 81. Her two day total of 162 keeps her 15 back of the leader and still within a shout of the lead.
Players were divided into three flights based on their 36-hole scores.
The First Flight features 16 players at 177(35-over par) or better.
The Second Flight will be contested by players with scores of 178(36-over par) to 189(47-over par).
The Third Flight will be comprised of players with scores of 191(49-over par) to 209(67-over par).
Super-Senior Division (Ages 65-70) leader and 18 hole co-leader Jewell Malick from Rockwall holds a six shot advantage over Prosper’s Nancy Parvin. In the Super-Super Division (Ages 71 and up), Louise Davis, holds a nine shot lead over Georgetown’s Dot Lovett.
The second round featured an improvement of scores as the scoring average for the second round was reduced by three shots. With another perfect day forecasted, it should be a make for an exciting finish.
