Washington grabs hold of slim lead at Gifford Collegiate
Corey Pereira
CARLSBAD, Calif. — Thanks to individual first-place holder Corey Pereira, the Washington Huskies moved two strokes ahead of Stanford to lead with 18 holes left at the Gifford Collegiate. The two teams were tied after the opening round, but a 9-under par second round put Washington in position for a big win at the UCLA-hosted tournament.
Pereira, the 2015 Sahalee Players Championship, has rounds of 69 and 68 under his belt to lead Jeff Swegle of Stanford by a stroke. To go along with Pereira's 68, three other Husky players posted 69 — Chris Babcock, Frank Garber, and Jonathan Sanders.
Stanford's David Boote also came in with 68 for the Cardinal, who hold second place by 10 over San Diego State.
