Cameron John wins Argentine Amateur

CABA, Argentina — The 120th edition of the Argentine Amateur Championship Cup FiberCorp concluded this afternoon at Tortugas Country Club and the winner was Cameron John, a 16-year-old who beat the experienced André Tourinho of Brazil in the final. John captured the victory by a count of 2-and-1 in a match where the wind from the north played a crucial part.
Before reaching the final, John had defeated fellow Australian Anthony Quayle 2-and-1.
In the decisive match, was reduced to 18 holes, John didn't get off a good start and after the fourth hole was 3-down. The Australian began recovering the on the fifth hole, where he won with a birdie, and again with another birdie at the sixth. After being all-square through 11, John won the 12th and 13th hole and eventually close out Tourinho with a par at 17.
In Saturday morning's semifinal round, Tourinho advanced to the championship match with a victory against Italian Luca Cianchetti.
