Martin's opening round of 64 put him at 6-under, which he followed up with a 2-under 68 in the afternoon round, giving him a one-stroke lead over Florida teammates Alejandro Tosti and Sam Horsfield. Martin had eight birdies and two bogeys in the opening round for his 64.
Tosti, a sophomore, matched Martin’s opening 64 with one of his own, and came back to post a 69 in the afternoon for a total of 133. Freshman Horsfield fired a 65 in the morning and 68 in the afternoon to finish his day tied with Tosti at 133. Fellow freshman Jorge Garcia carded a first round 66 and followed it up with a 68 to finish at 138.
