Andrew Levitt
TUSTIN, California (March 1, 2016) -- The USC
men’s
golf team turned in a dominating performance to win
the Southwestern Jones Invitational on Tuesday at
North Ranch C.C.
Senior Andrew Levitt fired a final-round 68 to catch
and
pass teammate Jonah Texeira and clinch his first
career
collegiate victory.
It was the Trojans' second tournament win of the
season -- they posted a team total of 26-under 838
(280-282-286), 20 better than host Pepperdine and
25
better than third-place San Diego State.
Levitt won medalist honors at 8-under 208 (72-68-
68),
overtaking sophomore Jonah Texeira in the final
round.
Texeira posted 7-under 209 (69-67-73). He led for
most of the three rounds and was 3-under through
No.
10, but hit his first rough patch during the home
stretch, bogeying three late holes. Texeira’s tie for
second was still a career-best finish as a Trojan and
marked the fourth top 8 he’s had this season.
“Winning always feels good and I’m happy for all the
guys on the team,” USC Coach Chris Zambri said.
“But
I’m especially happy for Andrew, a senior who won
his
first college tournament. We have an event next
week
so for us it’s just back to the drawing board and
figuring out how to get ourselves ready for that.”
INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
San Diego State turned in two strong individual
performances from Nahum Mendoza III (3rd place at
7-
under) and Ryann Ree (4th place at 6-under). Ree
also
had the low round of the tournament, moving way up
the board in the final round with a 65.
USC Sophomore Sean Crocker was part of a three-
way
tie for fifth at 5-under 211 along with Maverick
Antcliff
(Augusta) and Frederick Wedel (Pepperdine)
