Texas North Mid-Amateur: Michael Pruitt, Aaron Hickman early leaders

GARLAND, TX (March 18, 2016)--Michael Pruitt and Aaron Hickman are the first round leaders at the Texas Mid-North Amateur. Pruitt and Hickman playing on the Bridges Course at Firewheel Golf Park will carry a two stroke lead into day two of play.
Pruitt carded a bogey free 67 to post his 5-under par score. The Lubbock, TX resident started on No.10, birding No. 14 and 15 on his opening nine. On his second nine Pruitt picked up three more birdies on the second, sixth and eighth holes.
Hickman (Tyler, TX) was nearly as flawless as Pruitt registering just one bogey. After starting on No. 10 Hickman posted a 1-under par 35 to get his round started. His only bogey came on No. 18.
On the front nine Hickman quickly got things started with a birdie on No. 1. He then followed it up with three more birdies on three, seven and eight.
The duo will have a two stroke lead over Christopher Wheeler (Addison, TX) and Rob Couture (Dallas, TX) who are at 3-under par. Eleven players are within five strokes of the round one leaders.

Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur
golfers who are 25 years of age or older by the
tournament start date and residing in the
North Texas region as defined by the Texas
PGA Sections (North of 31 degree parallel,
Salado TX and north is break point).
Applicants must have a certified USGA
Handicap Index of 8.4 or less.
Format: 54 holes Stroke Play. No Cut.
Field limit: 84 players.
