Celine Boutier
BATON ROUGE, LA (March 22, 2016)--Duke Senior
Celine Boutier (-8) was in a word, dominant at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic. Not only was she the only player under-par at the The University Club in tough conditions but she won by an astounding 14 strokes. Boutier put together three round scores of 67-72-69 to blitz the field and win wire-to-wire.
Boutier set the 54-hole women's collegiate competition record with her 8-under par score. Teammate Virginia Elena Carta and Tulane senior Madison Opfer finished in second place, 6-over par.
She led by six entering the final day of a wind blown tournament and as others struggled Boutier kept the peddle to the metal. Just so the field knew she wasn't letting up she birdied No. 1. Bouteir tallied five birdies and just two bogeys in the final round.
Behind the lights out play of Boutier, No. 3 Duke (881) was able to win by 16 stokes over second place No. 4 Arkansas (897). Tulane (910) was third place an astonishing 29 behind. Host LSU (920) tied for fifth.
Duke saw all five players finish in the top-14. Along with the second place finish of freshman Virginia Elena Carta it was junior Sandy Choi, sophomore Leona Maguire and sophomore Gurbani Singh all finishing in 14th place with a three day score of 12-over par.
ROUND TWO STORY
With the winds calming after gusting for much of the first two days No. 3 Duke (589) will take the lead heading into tomorrows final round. They lead No. 4 Arkansas (601) by 12 strokes at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic being contested at The University Club.
One of the top amateurs in the world, Duke Senior Celine Boutier (-5) leads the medalist chase after two days thanks to scores of 67-72. She is the only player under par, leading by six.
Tennessee sophomore Blakesly Warren (+1) is Boutier's closest pursuers. Two more are well back at 4-over par and tied for third.
Boutier, who played in both the U.S. Open and British Open last year, played steady on a difficult day to play. The Montrouge, France native was 1-over par after her first nine but was able to finish even on the day thanks to a birdie on No. 14.
Through two days Duke has placed all five players inside the top-16. Sophomore Gurbani Singh (+6) is tied for sixth. Sophomore Leona Maguire (+7) is in a tie for 14th while junior Sandy Choi (+8) and freshman Virginia Elena Carta (+8) are for 16th.
Sitting in third place in the team race is No. 18 Tennessee (603). No. 25 Houston (608), the final top 25 team in this week's field is in a tie for fourth.
Host school and defending champion LSU (615) is currently in eighth place. They have won their own tournament eight times.
