Maverick McNealy

Stanford has been led by junior Maverick McNealy (-10). After scores of 66-64 McNealy will begin play tomorrow one shot behind Wise in second place. The Stanford star bogeyed just one hole and birdied seven on his way to his 6-under-par score. McNealy birdied holes 13-16 in succession to pull within one-stroke of the lead.

Overall Stanford has three players in the top-15. In addition to McNealy, sophomore Franklin Huang (-1) is T8 and senior David Boote (E) in T14.

Oregon sophomore Aaron Wise followed up his tournament record tying 7-under-par 63 with a day two 4-under-par 66. Wise bogeyed just one hole as he carded five birdies. Through two days Wise has now tallied an impressive 11 birdies.

Wise and McNealy have created a slight amount of separation between them and the rest of the field. Arizona State senior Max Rottluff (-7) is four back in third place. Rico Hoey (-5) the USC junior is a distant six back sitting in fourth.

Concluding the team top-5 standings are No. 18 USC (698) in third place, Pepperdine (705) is fourth and No. 9 Arizona State (708) is in fifth.

ROUND ONE STORY

Oregon (341) has jumped in front of the mostly Pac-12 field and leads the way after the first round of the Western Intercollegiate. Sophomore Aaron Wise (-7) is pacing the Ducks at the famed Pasatiempo Golf Club.

Wise began his round on No. 6 and surged to the top of the leaderboard at the end of play with four birdies on the final five holes. He finished the day with a tournament record tying 7-under-par 63. The 2015 Pac-12 Second Team performer tallied seven birdies during his bogey-free round. Wise had back-to-back birdies on three separate occasions. First on 8-9 then again on 1-2 and 4-5.

Oregon also received top-15 play from senior Zach Foushee (-1) and redshirt junior Nigel Lett (-1) who are both T13.

No. 7 Stanford (345) sits in second place just four-strokes back. The Cardinals were paced by junior Maverick McNealy (-4) who sits in second place overall. McNealy led most of the day until the Wise run late in the afternoon. The junior eagled the par-5 9th while also birding five holes and bogeying three.

USC junior Rico Hoey (-4) is tied with three others in third place.

Sitting behind Oregon and Stanford in the team standings are No. 4 USC (346) in third, Pepperdine (348) in fourth and No. 18 California (353) in fifth.
