HEWLETT, NY (May 7, 2016) - Brett Cooper earned the
top-seed in the 2016 Richardson Invitational during
Thursday's qualifying round and he carried that
momentum all the way to the match play title. Playing
on a gray dreary day on his home course the Seawane
Country Club member defeated Jonathan Jeter 3&2 in
the 18-hole final. Cooper became the first Seawane
Country Club member to win the the Richardson
Invitational.
Jeter drew first blood in the match winning No. 2
but
Cooper quickly squared the match on the ensuing hole.
Again Jeter took a 1 up lead with a victory on No. 5 but
couldn't extend his lead allowing Cooper to even the
match on the 9th.
On the next hole Cooper took his first lead of the
match
and the tally stayed the same until the East Rockaway,
NY native won 15 and 16 back-to-back to close out the
match.
Cooper reached the finals with a 3&2 semifinal win
over
Kevin Dolph while Jeter advanced to the final match
thanks to a 1 up win against Hal Berman.
MATCH PLAY DAY ONE
After 36-holes of play on Friday the semifinal
matches at the 2016 Richmond Invitational are set.
Following the round of 16 and the quarterfinals at
Seawane Country Club two of the top four seeds
remain
in the field, including top-seed Brett Cooper.
The semifinal matches are as follows:
Brett Cooper vs. Kevin Dolph
Hal Berman vs. Jonathan Jeter
Cooper reached the semifinals thanks to wins over
Garrett Engel (19 Holes) in the quarterfinals and Sean
Keller (3&2) in the round of 16. For Dolph it was a 4&3
quarterfinal win over Oliver Hudesman and a by default
win against Jonathan Ostrow in the round of 16
The other semifinal match was set up by a Hal
Berman 2&1 victory over two-seed Pat Pierson in the
quarterfinals and a comfortable 4&3 win over Dave
Segot in the round of 16. While Jonathan Jeter
defeated
Ross Lehrer 6&4 in the quarters and upended Steven
Tarulli 2&1 in the round of 16.
QUALIFYING ROUND
Brett Cooper shot a a 2-over 73 to win the
qualifying
round at the Richardson Memorial Invitational. Cooper
will not be the top-seed in the match play portion of
the
event at Seawane Country Club. The tournament will
switch to match play tomorrow with the top 16 players
advancing from the qualifier.
The top four seeds in match play will be Cooper,
Pat
Pierson (+3), Steven Tarulli (+4) and Kevin Dolph
(+4).
