Defending Champion Todd Hendley Leads South Carolina Senior

ORANGEBURG, SC (May 10, 2016) - After leading wire-to-wire in 2015, defending champion Todd Hendley continued his torrid play in the SCGA Senior Championship taking a five shot lead after a first round 5-under 67 at Orangeburg Country Club.
Starting on the 10th hole, Hendley came out of the gates with a birdie three on his first hole. After his lone bogey of the day on the long par-4 13th, Hendley fired right back with birdies on holes 14 and 17. Making the turn at 2-under-par, the Greer native managed five pars in a row until a birdie two on the par-3 6th and an eagle three on the par-5 8th. The defending champion will start the second round five shots clear of his nearest competitor, just as he did in 2015.
Columbia residents, Gus Sylvan and Bob Edens are tied for second with rounds of even-par 72. Seven players finished the first round tied for fourth at 1-over-par 73.
The second round will begin Wednesday with a morning wave beginning at 8:00 a.m. and an afternoon wave starting at 12:00 p.m.
The 2016 SCGA Senior Championship is being played on the 6,536 yard Orangeburg Country Club layout in Orangeburg, SC. The starting field consists of 103 players over the age of 55 and will be cut to the low 60 and ties after the first two days of play.
