The Honors Course, Hole No. 10 (USGA)
OOLTEWAH, TN (May 28, 2016) -- So far, Joseph Deraney has been the only player to break 70 at the challenging Honors Course. His 69 in the first round coupled with the even-par 70 he shot today, give the Lexington, Kentucky resident a 3-shot lead heading into the final round of the Lupton Invitational.
Sunday's final round is going to be interesting. Not only is the Honors Course bound to be set up "tournament tough" -- the pressure of being chased by one of the country's top Mid-Ams (Patrick Christovich of New Orleans) and the defending champ (Charles Waddell of Chicago) is sure to keep things interesting.
Deraney defeated many of his chasers earlier this Spring at the Timuquana Cup in Florida. He lost here at the Lupton in a playoff last year (to Waddell) which means two things: 1) he knows how to score on The Honors Course, and 2) he might have some extra incentive to close the deal in regulation tomorrow and avoid a playoff.
The cut fell at 5-over 149 in the Mid-Am division.
Jack Hall of Savannah posted 76 Stableford points to take a one point lead over Paul Simson and Doug Hanzel into the final round, while Ted Smith posted 66 Stableford points to lead the Super Senior division by 3.
The tournament committee will be providing live scoring on Sunday and you will, of course, find a link to that on AmateurGolf.com.
