Best of Memorial Day Weekend: Oregon's Aaron Wise is NCAA DI medalist and more

(May 31, 2016) -- Playing in his final collegiate event Oregon's Aaron Wise captured the
NCAA Division I individual title. Wise, led during much of the final round but it wasn't until a birdie on 17 that he led for good.

Joseph Deraney continued his impressive play this year, winning his second Major of Amateur Golf of the year. After winning the Timuquana Cup at the beginning of May he ended the month by winning the Lupton Invitational in wire-to-wire fashion.
A second Major of Amateur Golf champion was crowned this weekend as Ben Corfee went wire-to-wire and captured the Memorial Amateur.
Across the pond in Scotland, Cameron John won the Scottish Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Jones fired an amateur Gullane Course record in the final round with a 63 to secure the win.
Four-Ball Champions
Memorial Day weekend saw another round of exciting four-ball events that began with Brett Widner and Donnie Aldrich winning the Olympia Fields Four-Ball. This successful duo has also won the 2014 Indiana Four-Ball and the 2015 Indiana Mid-Am team together.
In South Carolina, Furman teammates Preston Cole and Bryce Howell pulled off a 1 up victory in the championship match while Mike McCoy and Gene Elliott won the Iowa Four-Ball Championship for the third time.
SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
At the beginning of the weekend Tommy Brennan was the definition of steady in winning the Trans-Mississippi Senior Championship at Houston Country Club.
In the NCGA Senior Championship Casey Boyns was victorious for the second straight year coming from two shots behind on the final day.
CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS
One city championship was won on the east coast and the other on the west coast. The New York City Amateur concluded on Sunday with Ryan Snouffer finishing 10-under 206. His three-day score was the second lowest in tournament history according to tournament director Matt Zuntag.
On the west coast the Fresno City Championship was determined on Memorial Day as Colby Thomason won by three shots.
