PEMBERTON, BC (June 8, 2016) -- Tom Brandes is one of two players under-par at the Pacific Northwest Senior Championship and will take a one-stroke lead into Thursday's final round. Brandes currently sits at 2-under-par after an even-par 72 at the Big Sky Golf Club.
Brandes (Bellevue, WA) dropped to even for the tournament following a double-bogey on the 7th hole and then to 1-over after bogey on No. 12. So as Brandes, a two-time Pacific Northwest Senior winner, stood on the 13th tee he knew that something positive needed to happen and he also knew that he only had six holes to make a move.
Well he didn't have to wait long quickly getting back to 1-under for the tournament with birdies on 13 and 14. Brandes then returned his round to even-par thanks to his third and final birdie of the day on the 17th hole.
First round co-leader Gene Cook (Woodinville, WA) shot a 73 and dropped a stroke on the second day with three bogeys and two birdies. He is alone in second place and one behind Bradnes.
Lance Lundy (Pemberton, BC) is 1-over in third, Norm Bradley (Kelowna, BC) sits in fourth at 2-over while Jim Shaw (Mission, BC) is fifth and 3-over.
SUPER SENIOR DIVISION
Gudmund Lindbjerg (Port Moody, BC) sits at 1-under and will carry a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Super Senior Division. Lindbjerg, who began the day in second place, overcame a three shot deficit to take the lead by shooting a 1-under 71 in the second round.
Lindbjerg birdied four holes during the round and nearly ran away from the field but slipped up with a a triple-bogey on No. 12. Fortunately, the triple-bogey didn't take the wind out of Lindbjerg's ballon as he birdied the next two holes.
First round leader Rick Weihe (Bellingham, WA) and Tom Kubisa (Bremerton, WA) are currently tied for second with an even-par 36-hole total.
Chris Maletis (Portland, OR) is 6-over and a distant fourth while two others are tied for fifth at 8-over.
