Amateurs Mendel, Morris fall in Atlanta Open playoff
JOHNS CREEK, GA (June 15, 2016) -- A pair of amateurs came up just short on the final day of the Atlanta Open at St. Ives Country Club. Jason Mendel and Adam Morris finished the final round tied with professional Sonny Skinner at 7-under but were outlasted in the playoff.

Morris was eliminated after the first playoff hole while Mendel was defeated on the third extra hole, the 18th, when Skinner birdied.

Mendel, a junior at South Alabama, led by two entering the final round, after a first day bogey-free 7-under 65. In the second round Mendel got off to a good start with two birdies on the front nine but struggled on the back with four bogeys and two birdies. One bright spot for Mendel came following his bogey on No. 17 when he bounced back to birdie the 18th and earn a spot in the playoff. Mendel shot a final round even-par 72.

Adam Morris reached the playoff thanks to pair of under-par rounds. Morris began the Atlanta Open with a 4-under 68 and followed it up with a 3-under 69.

Skinner shot rounds 70-67 to reach 7-under and the playoff.

Amateur Bob Royak missed the playoff by a stroke as he finished tied for fourth at 6-under.
