Best of the Weekend: Jon Rahm is Low Amateur at U.S. Open and more

(June 20, 2016) -- Playing in his final tournament as an amateur Jon Rahm went out in style shooting an even-par 70 at the
U.S. Open to finish 7-over and tied for 23rd. Rahm will now enter the next chapter of his golfing life and turn professional.
This weekend also featured three Majors of Amateur Golf. On the eastern side of the country Collin Morikawa rallied to win the Sunnehanna Amateur with an 8-under 62 in the final round while Jared Bettcher won the Southeastern Amateur in his third try. Across the map in Arizona, it was P.J. Samiere winning the Southwestern Amateur with a final round 3-under 67.
Over the weekend the British Amateur was completed and Scott Gregory was able to capture one of the most prestigious trophies in amateur golf.
STATE AMATEURS
-21-year-old Fred Wedel won the Texas Amateur-Nicholas Lyerly became the youngest player to ever win the North Carolina Amateur-In Arkansas it was Austin Eoff winning the Arkansas State Amateur in a shootout-The lone New England amateur champion of the weekend was crowned in Connecticut as Zach Zaback won the 114th playing of the state's amateur championship-An amateur champion was also determined in Hawaii as Brent Grant won the Manoa Cup-Back on the east coast it was Emma Albrecht emerging victorious in the Florida Women’s Amateur while Riley Rennell won the Tennessee Women’s Amateur
ADDITIONAL TOURNAMENT NEWS
On Saturday Michael McDermott rallied late to emerge victorious at the BMW Philadelphia Amateur ,played on his home course, the Merion Golf Club. Not all that far away in Southamption, NY Sam Bernstein won The Singles at National Golf Links.
Some states also held their match play tournaments with Rylee Reinertson winning in Nebraska and Connor Burns winning in South Carolina.
