ASHLAND, KY (July 13, 2016) -- Andy Roberts has been more than impressive during his first two rounds at the Kentucky Amateur. Roberts shot a bogey-free 5-under 65 on Tuesday and then followed it up with 3-under 67 on Wednesday to reach 8-under at Bellefonte Country Club. With 18-holes remaining Roberts has a one-stroke lead over Billy Basham and Joseph Deraney.
In the first round Roberts, from Owensboro, KY, birdied five holes and then followed it up with a five birdie, three bogey day. Robert's birdies on day two came on holes 1, 9, 11, 13 and 16.
Louisville's Billy Basham reached 7-under thanks to rounds of 68-65. His 65 came as a result of five birdies, an eagle on the par-5 opening hole and two bogeys.
Deraney, 7-under, has fired rounds of 67-66 thus far as he looks to continue his stellar play in 2016. With wins already at the Lupton and Timuquana Cup's Deraney will look to add a Kentucky Amateur title to the already impressive list on Thursday.
Through the first two days of play Deraney has carded 11 birdies and four bogeys.
Jacob Poore, Union, KY, is 6-under and in fourth while Denver Haddix Jr. (Lexington, KY) and Andrew McKinney (Danville, KY) share fifth at 5-under and still very much in the picture.
