BRUNSWICK, ME (August 17, 2016) -- Top-seed Matt Hutchins will square off against 14-seed Will Kannegieser in the Maine Match Play final on Thursday morning beginning at 7:00 a.m. EST.
Hutchins reached the final at Brunswick Golf Club following a 4&3 semifinal win over five-seed Judd Parsons. The match was all-square after the 3rd hole but wins on Nos. 4 and 6 gave Hutchins a lead he would never relinquish.
Thus far the most difficult win of the week for Hutchins came in the quarterfinal when he survived 1 up over eight-seed Kyle Alexander. Hutchins trailed with three holes remaining before rallying with wins on the 16th and 18th holes.
Will Kannegieser won his semifinal tilt 2&1 over 15-seed Mike Doran. The match was close throughout but Kannegieser was able to put it away on the 17th hole.
The semifinal match for Kannegieser has just been a microcosm of his week. In addition to his latest nip and tuck victory Kannegieser has won matches by tallies of 20 holes (Round of 32), 19 holes (Round of 16) and 1 up (quarterfinals)
