Mike Arnold claims Golfweek Senior National Match Play

SANFORD, NC (August 22, 2016) -- In a 2&1 final tally Mike Arnold has captured the Golfweek Senior National Match Play title at Tobacco Road Golf Club. Arnold, the No. 11 seed was able to outlast top-seed Bob Kearney.
Arnold made his way to the final thanks to a 3&2 win over No. 7 Jon Valuck while Kearny won a hard fought 2&1 match against recent North & South Senior Amateur winner Paul Simson, the five-seed.
Other winners at the Golfweek Senior National Match Play were top-seed Robert Hess in the Super Senior Division and No. 6 Gary Strickfaden in the Legends Division.
Hess won his title by besting second-seed Gary Kirwan 3&2. Strickfaden won 2 up against five-seed Gus Kozina.
ABOUT THE
The Golfweek Senior National Match-Play
Championship consists of four separate
brackets,
senior (age 55-64), super-senior (age 65-69),
legends (age 74) and super-legends (75+).
Over the
course of three days, players in each bracket
will be
whittled to one Senior National Match-Play
champion
in each division. Unlike other match play
tournaments, The Golfweek Senior National
Match
Play is not a one loss and done tournament. As
players are eliminated from match-play they
will
enter a consolation stroke-play competition
using the
stableford scoring system.
