COLLIERVILLE, TN (August 25, 2016) -- Tim Jackson fired a final round 3-under 69, to finish 2-under and atop the Tennessee Senior Amateur leaderboard.
Jackson, who won the 2016 George L. Coleman Senior Invitational, took the lead on the first day at Spring Creek Ranch with a 3-under 69, but struggled on Wednesday shooting a 4-over 76 and as a result he started the day 1-over and one-stroke behind Greg Guinn.
However, as Guinn struggled on the front nine with a 38 to fall to 2-over while Jackson held steady before making a run late.
Following 11 straight pars to start his round, Jackson birdied the 12th only to give it back with his only bogey of the day on the 13th. From then on it was flawless golf for the two-time U.S. Mid-Amateur winner as he surged to the top of the leaderboard with three birdies on the final five holes. His birdies came on Nos. 14, 15 and 18.
Danny Green finished even-par for the week and in second place, Jeff Golliher was 1-over in third, Mitch Hufstetler placed fourth with a 2-over tally while 36-hole leader Greg Guinn tied for fifth with Doug Harris at 5-over.
In the Super Senior Division Neil Spitalny took home top honors after winning on the second playoff hole against Jim Webb. Spitalny was the Tennessee Senior Amateur winner in 2015.
ROUND TWO RECAP
Greg Guinn is even-par and leading the way at the Tennessee Senior Amateur at Spring Creek Ranch with one round left to play.
Guinn has taken a slim one-stroke lead following rounds of 71-73. On Wednesday, Guinn had an up and down round that saw him birdie three holes, bogey two and double-bogey one. The birdies for Guinn came on Nos. 3, 12 and 15.
A talented duo is currently 1-over and tied for second place. First round leader Tim Jackson struggled in the second round, shooting a 4-over 76 one day after firing a bogey-free 3-under 69. Jackson, the 2014 Tennessee State Amateur winner, did birdie three holes but he also bogeyed three and double-bogeyed two consecutive holes; Nos. 8 and 9.
2014 Tennessee Senior Amateur champion Danny Green is also part of the second place tie. Green began the day 1-under and reached 4-under after a birdie on the 14th before faltering down the stretch with a bogey on the 16th and two double-bogeys to finish his round.
The final three hole stretch for Green was played in 5-over.
A trio of players are tied for fourth at 3-over.
In the Super Senior Division Neil Spitalny is leading the way.
ROUND ONE RECAP
Tim Jackson has opened up a two-stroke lead after a first round 3-under 69 at the Tennessee Senior Amateur.
Playing at Spring Creek Ranch Jackson, a two-time U.S. Mid-Amateur winner, put together a bogey-free round with most of his work coming early.
Jackson, the winner of the 2016 George L. Coleman Senior Invitational, shot out of the gate with birdies on the first two holes to quickly reach 2-under. Following a string of pars Jackson picked up his final birdie of the day on the 10th hole.
Two players; Danny Green and Greg Guinn share second place following rounds of 1-under 71.
Green picked up birds on Nos. 6 and 14 while picking up his only bogey on the final hole. Guinn was even-par after a two birdie, two bogey on the front nine before moving into red figures for good, with a birdie on the 12th.
Mitch Hufstetler and Jeff Golliher are tied for fourth at even-par.
In the Super Senior Division Neil Spitalny shot a first round 2-over 74 and leads over David Kraus (+3) and Bob Waldschmidt (+4).
