CHARLESTON, WV (August 24, 2016) -- In the title match of the West Virginia Mid-Amateur, top-seed Sam O'Dell blitzed two-seed Tad Tomblin early before winning 6&4.

O'Dell, winner of two of the last four West Virginia Amateurs, won the three of the first six holes to jump out to a 3 up lead in the blink of an eye. Despite the early lead O'Dell didn't let up as he turned his advantage into a 6 up lead following wins on Nos. 8-10.

Tomblin tried to hang around and he did winning the 11th and 12th holes.

However, the run was short lived as O'Dell won the 13th hole to close out the match.

O'Dell reached the championship match with a 1 up semifinal win Wednesday morning against four-seed Pat Carter. It was a tightly contested match throughout and the match was tied at all-square for 11 of the 18 holes. O'Dell used an 18th hole victory to move on.

Tomblin defeated 19-seed Adam Sholes 2&1 in his semifinal tilt. After winning Nos. 3-5 Tomblin took a 3 up lead and from there he was able to hang on.
