GARDEN CITY, KS (August 28, 2016) -- Sion Audrain shot rounds of 70-73 to finish 2-over and win the High Plains Amateur in wire-to-wire fashion at The Golf Club at Southwind. With the win Audrain became the youngest winner in the 22-year history of the event.

“It’s probably the biggest win I’ve had,” Audrain told The Garden City Telegram following his round. “I didn’t do anything all summer besides the City Championship. It feels good to win at home. I wanted to play good, and there were a couple of times where I think the nerves got in the way.”

On day one Audrain put together a 1-under round with two birdies and a bogey. Audrian dropped his only shot of the day on the 4th and remained 1-over until he birdied the 14th and 18th holes to reach red figures.

During the final round Audrain was able to do more than enough to hoist the trophy as he birdied two holes and bogeyed four. His birdies came on Nos. 5 and 14.

The birdie on the 14th came after he knocked his 8-iron from 155 yards out to just a couple of feet.

Dominick Pollock finished alone in second place at 3-over while five players finished 4-over and tied for third.

The Senior Division was won by Michael Casamento who finished 5-over on his way to winning by three-strokes. In the Masters Division it was Sean Robertson winning by a shot.
