LOUISVILLE, KY (August 30, 2016) -- Earlier this year Steve Humphrey won the Kentucky Senior Match Play and after defeating Scott Ray in a playoff on Tuesday he is the Senior Amateur champion as well.
Humphrey and Ray finished regulation at Audubon Country Club tied at 2-under before Humphrey's took care of business on the first playoff hole, the 10th.
After shooting a 2-over 74 in the first round, Humphrey was four back to begin the final round. Early in round two Humphrey was mostly just plodding along and through 14-holes he was 1-under for the day. However, with four holes to go Humphrey caught fire as he carded birdies on Nos. 15, 16 and 18 to quickly reach 2-under.
The closing surge helped Humphrey post the low round of the week, a 4-under 68.
Scott Ray made his way into the playoff following an even-par 72. Ray, one of three players tied for the over night lead, had it to 4-under at one point but three back nine bogeys, including one on the final hole forced play to extra holes.
Happy Rakestraw was a part of the first round lead before finishing third at even-par, David Pohlmann was fourth at 1-over while Scott Pottinger was 2-over and in fifth.
The final member of the trio that shared the first round lead was Tom Scheuerman who finished 4-over and tied for sixth.
