BELFAST, Ireland (September 1, 2016) -- Teenager Alessia Nobilio has posted scores of 73-71 for a two-under-par tally of 144 at the par-73 Knock Golf Club.Nobilio had five birdies and three bogeys in Thursday's round which lifted her into a one-stroke lead over Sophie Lamb (Clitheroe) and Georgia Price (Bude and North Cornwall).Nobilio birdied the 3rd, 5th, short 12th, long 14th and 17th while her bogeys came on the 6th, 7th and long 10th. Sophie Lamb improved by nine strokes on her opening round of 77. She had birdies today at the 1st, 4th, 6th, 11th, 16th and 17th in a five-under-par 68 (34-34), the round of the day. She had one bogey, at the 15th.
Georgia Price has scored 73-72 for 145. Her second-round 72 had birdies at the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th holes. She dropped shots at the 1st, 9th and 11th. Jessica Ross (Clandeboye), sharing fourth place with a second Italian in the top 10, Alessia Cristin Avanzo, and overnight joint leader Inci Mehmet (Royal Mid Surrey), has shot 73-74 so in her bid to improve on last year's joint fourth place finish in this 72-hole tournament. She birdied the 9th, 10th, 12th and 17th in halves of 39-35.Inci slipped from a first-day 71 to a second-round 76 (37-39). She had a double-bogey at the par-4 8th and bogeys at the 6th, 7th and 9th. Chloe Williams, who was also a joint overnight leader, lost ground with a 77 for 148. The GB and I international from Wrexham had double-bogeys at the 2nd and 18th in halves of 38 and 39. Mairead Martin (Killarney), the last of the three overnight pacemakers, came to grief with a second-round 79 for 150. She had no birdies, but one double-bogey, in halves of 40 and 39. The cut fell at 157 and the most notable players on the wrong side of that mark were Ireland's Niamh McSherry (Lurgan) with rounds of 81 and 77 for 158, and Olivia Winning (Rotherham), twice winner of the Helen Holm Scottish open amateur stroke play championship at Troon. Olivia had rounds of 78 and 82 (43-39). The Team Award / Nations Cup was won by Italy with a 2 round total of 293, represented by Alessia Nobilio, Caterina Don and Clara Manzalini. In close second place with 294, England, represented by Gemma Clews, Samantha Giles and Sophie Lamb. Third place was Ireland, represented by Niamh McSherry, Chloe Ryan and Jessica Ross. Fourth place Wales on 300 represented by Chloe Williams, Georgia Lewis and Bethan Morris and in 5th place, Scotland, represented by Shannon McWilliam, Chloe Goadby and Hannah McCook.
