Keith Decker wins the Senior Porter Cup by five-strokes

LEWISTON, NY (September 8, 2016) -- Keith Decker left little to doubt on the final day of the Senior Porter Cup at Niagara Falls Country Club. Decker closed with a final round 2-under 68 to finish 4-under and a comfortable five-strokes ahead of the field.

Decker, with rounds of 72-66-68, continued his stellar season by picking up his third AmateurGolf.com ranking win of the year to go along with his third career Virginia Senior Amateur title.

Steve Humphrey, 1-over, finished in second place, Paul Schlachter was 6-over in third, Mark Weston placed fourth at 7-over while Mike Krulich was fifth and 9-over.

In the Super Senior Division, despite struggling in the final round, John Armstrong closed out the title. Armstrong was 2-under heading into the final round but fell to 5-over with a 7-over 77. However, Armstrong was still able to win by three over Jim Castagna and Don Kuehn.

The Legends Division was claimed Skip Snow in the tightest race of the three divisions. Snow started the day with a one-stroke lead and he was able to maintain it as he finished 5-over and one in front of Fred Silver.

Walt Martin was third.

Keith Decker is 2-under and ahead by four-strokes after two rounds of the Porter Cup Senior.

Decker, who has had a banner year so far, has carded rounds of 72-66 thus far. The sixth ranked senior in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings, Decker has finished inside the top-10 in four ranking events this year, with wins coming at the Dave King Senior Invitational and Society of Seniors Spring Classic. Last month Decker also won his third Virginia Senior Amateur.

In second place, four shots behind Decker is Steve Humphrey at 2-over, Scott Mayne is third at 3-over, Mark Weston is 5-over and in fifth while Paul Schlachter is 6-over.

The Super Senior Division is being paced by John Armstrong. After two rounds Armstrong is 2-under thanks to rounds of 66-72.

Armstrong is the only player under-par and ahead of Jim Castagna by eight-strokes. Don Kuehn is one-stroke further back in third place.

In the Legends Division, it is Skip Snow leading the way in the tightest race of the three divisions. Snow, 5-over, leads Fred Silver who is one behind at 6-over.

Walt Martin is still within shouting distance four behind.

ABOUT THE Senior Porter Cup

The Senior Porter Cup is an invitational amateur event conducted at stroke play over 54 holes. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to invite players of national and international reputation to participate. Contestants are selected on the basis of their competitive record and accomplishments in major amateur and senior amateur tournaments. Players must be at least 55 years of age prior to beginning of tournament. The Senior division was added to the annual Porter Cup Invitational in 1992 and has been played as as a separate tournament since 2008.
