Peter Metzler runs away with Vermont Senior victory
BURLINGTON, VT (September 14, 2016) -- Peter Metzler went wire-to-wire to win the Vermont Senior Amateur at Burlington Country Club. Metzler finished 2-over and five-strokes in front of second place finisher's William Hadden and Chip Ward.
Metzler took the first round lead with the low round of the tournament, a 2-under 69 on Tuesday. The round included six birdies and four bogeys. In a bizarre looking scorecard over a 10-hole stretch from Nos. 6-15 Metzler birdied three holes in a row, bogeyed two in a row, birdied two in a row, bogeyed two in a row and then capped the run with a bogey.
During the second round Metzler struggled a bit, shooting a 4-over 75 but he was still able to comfortably win.
Hadden and Ward shared second place at 3-under, Kim Petty was fourth at 12-over while Michael Rozzi was 14-over in fifth.

Vermont Senior Amateur
Residents of Vermont must be a member of a club of
the VGA. Non-residents must be members of a VGA
member club for the past three years, has an active
GHIN handicap issued by a Vermont Golf Association
member club and has posted a minimum of 10
rounds of golf in the last 12 months outside of the
major championships at any VGA member club.
The Senior Championship is a
two-day, 36-hole event at stroke play. The
field to
be cut to the low 40 and ties after the first
day. The
Super
Senior Champion will be the low gross
score for
the two day total of the Senior
Championship.
The Low Ten Super Seniors automatically
qualify for the final round regardless of
where
they stand in the whole tournament.
