Chad Niezing wins Missouri Mid-Amateur in wire-to-wire fashion
FARMINGTON, MO (September 18, 2016) -- Chad Niezing took command of the Missouri Mid-Amateur on Saturday with a 7-under 65 and the finished it off his march to the title on Sunday with a 1-under 71 to finish 8-under.

Playing at Crown Pointe Golf Club Niezing birdied four holes and bogeyed three during his final round. Niezing, who reached the U.S. Mid-Amateur Round of 32 last week, birdied his first two holes during the final round meaning that dating back to Saturday he had birdied seven consecutive holes.

Both Tony Gumper and Brevin Giebler made Sunday charges before finishing 6-under and in second place.

Gumper turned in 1-over and at even-par for the weekend was seemingly out of it, until he eagled the par-5 11th and then birdied four more to close in 6-under 30.

Giebler started the day 2-under and got as low as 8-under with six birdies in his first 13-hole but a bogey on No. 14 and a double-bogey on the 15th knocked him out of the race.

Harry Roberts, Phil Caravia and Zach Decker shared fourth at 5-under.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Niezing didn't have much going through his first 12-holes as he was just 1-under. However, that number got a whole lot lower during his final six holes. Niezing concluded his round with a red hot six straight birdies to close with a back nine tally of 6-under 30.

Alex Cusumano is 4-under and in second place after a 68. Cusumano birdied five holes and bogeyed one during the round.
