David Johnson of Palm Bay, Florida shot a 4-under-par 67 on the Oaks course to lead a field of 205 men. Four players are at 68 and there are twenty players in all under par. Three players did not finish play due to darkness. The field returns Wednesday to complete round two. The field will be cut to the low 60 and ties after 36 holes.
The Dixie Amateur is one of the oldest amateur golf championships in the United States. It was first played at the Miami Country Club in 1924. The Amateurgolf.com-Bridgestone rankings and Titleist/GOLFWEEK awards points towards national and state rankings.
