In the final round Deraney, who shot a 5-under 67, birdied No. 1 to reach 4-under but quickly fell back to 2-under with a double-bogey on the ensuing hole. However, from there it was nearly flawless golf as Deraney birdied five of the next seven holes to reach 7-under. His only other bogey came on the 14th, but birdies on the closing two holes pushed the 2016 Timuquana Cup and Lupton Invitational winner through to the finish.

Andy Roberts tried to chase Deraney down but came up just short. Roberts did eagle the par-5 17th to reach 6-under, however he would have needed a hole out on the final hole just to tie.

Eric King was third at 4-under, in fourth it was Rob Crocket II at 3-under while four others shared fifth at even-par.

Three-time defending champion David Jasper ended up tied for 13th at 5-over.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Joseph Deraney shot a first round 3-under 69 to take a one-stroke lead at the Kentucky Mid-Amateur being contested at Danville Country Club.

Deraney birdied two of the first three holes to reach 2-under before giving it all back with a double-bogey on the 5th. The 2016 Timuquana Cup and Lupton Invitational winner moved back into red figures on the 8th and then got back to 2-under two holes later.

Deraney did bogey the 16th but he got that shot back and more with an eagle on the par-5 17th.

Heading into the final round Deraney leads a talented group tied for second at 2-under. The trio is comprised of Andy Roberts, Eric King and Steven Books.

Rob Crockett II and Davis Boland are the final two players in red figures at 1-under and tied for fifth.

Three-time defending champion David Jasper is well off the pace and tied for 20th at 6-over.
