LECANTO, FL (October 9, 2016) -- No. 9 Chip Brooke
and No. 11 Chris Fabozzi are the only two players
remaining at the Florida Mid-Amateur. The two will
begin
their championship match at Black Diamond Ranch at
9:00 a.m. Columbus Day morning.
Brooke punched his championship match ticket
following a 2&1 win over top-seed and co-medalist
TJ
Shuart in the quarterfinals and then a 1 up triumph
over
No. 12 Matthew Giovannelli in the semifinals. Against
Shuart, Brooke was 3 down at the turn but was able
to
rally and win holes 10-12 to square the match and
then
Nos. 14 and 17 to win the tilt.
In the semifinals Brooke had to hold on for dear
life. After nine holes Brooke held a comfortable 4 up
lead, only to watch as Giovannelli rallied to tie the
match on the 15th following four straight wins.
Unfazed,
Brooke responded with a win on the 17th hole to
retake
the lead and then sealed the deal with a closing hole
halve.
Fabozzi began his day with a 3&1 win over
three-
seed Glenn Przybylski in the quarterfinals. With the
match all-square through 14-holes, Fabozzi took
control
late with wins on Nos. 15, 16 and 17.
In the semifinals against No. 15 Joe Alfieri,
Fabozzi
was able to win a seesaw battle on the 20th hole.
Alfieri
sent the match to extra holes with a win on No. 18
but
it was Fabozzi who was able to move on thanks to a
win
on the second extra hole.
