Alyaa Abdulghany Wins Inaugural California State Open

BEAUMONT, Calif. (October 13, 2016) -- Corona del Mar High School senior Alyaa Abdulghany defeated a field of primarily professionals to win the inaugural Women's California State Open at Morongo Golf Club.
Adbulghany opened with a 7-under 65 to lead by two two shots heading into the final round. She posted a solid 69 to close the door by one shot over professional Jennifer Hahn. Adbulghany's final round included three birdies on the front nine to go out in 34. She started her back nine with two pars before going birdie, par, birdie and holding her nerves for four straight pars to close.
Adbulghany is one of the country's top junior golfers, having made it to the round of 32 in this year's U.S. Women's Junior Amateur and U.S. Women's Amateur. She will be playing for USC next fall. Amateurs Karah Sanford (Escondido, Calif.) and So Young Hwang (Los Angeles, Calif.) also played well, each posting top 10 finishes.
