BELLEVUE, NE (October 16, 2016) -- On Sunday Patrick Duffy won the 18th Nebraska Mid-Amateur and in the process became the third player to win at least two titles. Duffy fired a final round 1-under 71 to post 1-over and come from three behind at Platteview Golf Club.
Duffy, who also won in 2012, bogeyed the 3rd hole to fall to 3-over before finding his stride and playing 2-under golf from Nos. 4-12. He did give one more shot back with a bogey on the 13th but he was able to get it back with his final birdie on No. 15.
Andrew Sajevic matched Duffy with a 1-under 70 that was the only other red figure round of the day but he still finished three behind in second at 4-over. Cole Grandfield and first round leader Joey Baldwin were tied for third at 5-over while three players shared fifth at 6-over.
ROUND ONE RECAP
Joey Baldwin was the only player under-par on day one of the Nebraska Mid-Amateur and as a result he holds a two-stroke lead.
Playing at Platteview Golf Club, Baldwin posted an adventuresome 1-under 70. Starting on the 10th hole Baldwin bogeyed two of his first three holes before birdieing three of the next four to move into red figures. However, two bogeys followed and Baldwin turned in 1-over 37.
Flipping over to the frontside Baldwin was able to move back into red figures with a clean 2-under 34. The birdies dropped on the 2nd and 6th holes.
Tim Diehm is in second place following a 1-over 73. Diehm made the turn at 2-under but bogeyed three holes on the way home, including the final two.
Patrick Duffy, Trent Morrison and Cole Grandfield are all tied for third at 2-over. In a tie for sixth it is Chris Rager and David Easley at 3-over.
