Billy Peters Cup: GSGA leads Georgia Professional after Day One
BRASELTON, GA (October 16, 2016) -- Day one of the Billy Peters Cup Matches provided excitement and drama. Team GSGA earned 8 1/2 points while the Georgia PGA tallied 7 1/2. The 41st biennial competition is taking place at The Legends at Chateau Elan, October 16-17.
Both teams picked up four points during the morning four-ball matches leaving the match all-square. Team GSGA picked up a big win from duo David Noll Jr. and Cameron Hooper who defeated Bill Murchison and Sonny Skinner (5&4). The team of Kris Mikkelsen and John Engler Jr. defeated Mark Anderson and Joseph Finemore (5&3). Team GSGA's other two wins came from Michael Standard and Bob Royak over Hank Smith and Paul Claxton (3&1), as well as a victory from Jeff Belk and Chris Hall (3&2).
In the afternoon round of foursome matches, Team GSGA earned 4.5 points to the Georgia PGA's 3.5. Amateurs Mikkelsen and Engler continued their hot start from the morning with a win over pros Murchison and Finemore, (1 up). The first match to finish in the afternoon was duo Daugharty and VanGorder who defeated Evans and McCain (3&2). The final victory came from young guns Smith and Bowles over Anderson and Skinner (6&5).
