FLORENCE, CA (October 19, 2016) -- For the second year in a row, Joe Hackler claims the Harry Wilson Super Senior Championship at Florence Country Club with a final score of 5-over-par 147. Finishing tied for second, one shot back were John Laehn and John Welker. First round leader Jimmy Hamilton finished in sixth place.
Joe Hackler, from Myrtle Beach, started the day one shot behind and despite a struggling putter managed to hit the shots he needed to shoot a 3-over-par 74 to clinch the victory. Aiken resident, John Laehn along with local Florence player John Welker tied for the low score of the day with a 2-over-par 73 but ultimately fell one-stroke short of the tie.
In the Legends Division, three-time Super Senior Champion Bob Stringer claimed his first Legends Title with a two day total of 1-over-par 143. Stringer edged out Florence CC member Paul Davies Sr. by one shot despite the member’s even-par final round of 71.
The Super Senior Championship consisted of two divisions. The Championship division (Age 65-69) was split into three flights by first round scores: Wilson Flight (72-77), Second Flight (78-82), and Third Flight (83-88). The Legends Division (Age 70 & Over) was split into two flights by first round scores: Orr Flight (70-75) and Second Flight (76-81), and Third Flight (82-93).
